Welcome to Haven House

"They helped me build my
self-respect and self-esteem, and
helped me rebuild my life."

- former resident

Our Mission
Haven House provides emergency housing and support services for one-parent and two-parent families with children.  The shelter helps families who are homeless prepare for permanent housing by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability, and financial responsibility.

What's New

Haven House chosen as the recipient of the 2007 Reichle Award

Walter J. Reichle, long time owner/operator of McDonald's restaurants in the Grand Rapids area, left a bequest to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Outstate Michigan. In memory of Walter Reichle, the Reichle Award was created by RMHC to be be given to a recipient of an RMHC grant. This year Haven House received its second RMHC grant, to support our enrichment program for children staying at Haven House. In addition, we were selected to receive the 2007 Reichle Award, a cash conribution that we will put to good use. On February 27th representatives of the Reichle family and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Outstate Michigan visited Haven House to see us in action and to present a plaque and a check to Angie Mayeaux, Executive Director of Haven House. We are proud to have our work recognized in this way, and to receive vitally needed support for our programs.

HAVE-A-HEART for the homeless campaign

Every year Haven House raises funds for operating expenses for the shelter by selling "hearts" in a number of local businesses. By paying an extra $1, $5, or $20 when making a purchase you can help Haven House to carry out its mission. Every year many businesses partner with Haven House in this fund raising activity. This year they will included:

Businesses

Cadillac Club
Coffee Jam
Dalmations
Equipose
Flap Jack Restaurants
General Motors, Delta Plant
Great Lakes Capital Fund
Izzo Pub
L&L Foods (all stores)

Vinaigrettes
Woody's, East Lansing
Woody's, Okemos

Schools

Everett High School
Pattengill Middle School
Administration

Please patronize these businesses and thank them for their efforts on behalf of Haven House. Every year we receive approximately $10,000 from this fundraiser, which is critical to carrying out our mission.

Our Honorary Chairperson for the event this year is Suzy Merchant, the new coach of the MSU Women's Basketball team. On February 21st you can purchase hearts at the MSU Women's Basketball game (MSU vs. Northwestern), and we will make a brief presentation during the game. Come to the game to support Haven House and the MSU Spartans.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN- we are remodeling

In brief: We have been raising funds to remodel the building that we have occupied since 1989. Our fundraising has been successful and we are close to beginning to reconfigure the building in order to use the space more effectively, and to repair parts of the building that are showing signs of many years of use as a shelter for homeless families.
