Have A Heart for the Homeless
The Have A Heart campaign was started in 2001 to create more community awareness about Haven House and to raise additional funds that help homeless families with children in need.
Local businesses and organizations are supporting Haven House by participating in the program and join Have A Heart Honorary Chair Suzy Merchant, MSU Women’s Basketball Coach, in supporting Haven House by selling $1 and $5 Hearts to their customers and collecting funds for Haven House.
Individuals may purchase a paper heart to sign and have displayed at the business or organization's location. The hearts are available for a minimum donation of $1 and the funds raised directly help homeless families in Greater Lansing.
Angie Mayeaux, Haven House Executive Director, stated, “As we kick off our twelfth year we are pleased to have our returning business supporters and welcome our new supporters. With their help, we hope to raise $15,000 this year and increase the awareness of homelessness in our local community.”
How Have A Heart dollars help homeless families …
• $20 will assist a working adult with gas or bus tokens to get to work
• $50 will provide one day’s worth of electricity, heat and water at Haven House
• $35 will provide one day’s worth of meals for seven Haven House families
• $75 will teach a homeless family how to plan a budget and manage their money
• $100 will provide one week’s case management after a family moves out.
