Welcome to Haven House

"They helped me build my
self-respect and self-esteem, and
helped me rebuild my life."

- former resident

Our Mission

Haven House provides emergency housing and support services for one-parent and two-parent families with children.  The shelter helps families who are homeless prepare for permanent housing by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability, and financial responsibility.

Have-A-Heart for the Homeless Campaign

A picture of a pink heart that says "Have a Heart for the HOMELESS".Through the month of February many businesses, offices and groups will be participating in our annual Have-A-Heart fundraiser.  They will sell hearts (for $1 and $5) with the proceeds to support Haven House. The Have-A-Heart campaign has been an annual event of Haven House for many years.  It serves two very important roles.  It is an important source of operating funds for Haven House, and it is an opportunity to increase awareness in the community of the problems faced by homeless families in the Greater Lansing Area and the role that we play in attempting to ameliorate them.  We are supported by many merchants, professional offices, and other groups who sell hearts for us.  With the help of these people we hope to raise $12,000 this year.  Those who have already agreed to participate in the 2012 campaign as of this date are:

Chippewa Middle School Ted-Dee Sandwiches Decker's Coffee Company
Breadsmith Coffee Jam Corey's
Champions Gonewired E. Lansing Food Co-op
MSU Student Book Store Maurer's Sanitary Cleaners Woody's Oasis/Trowbridge
Hotwater Works Red Cedar Cafe Soup Spoon Cafe
Woody's Okemos Flap Jack/ Frandor MESSA
Reno's East Apple Market Eyde Management
Tiny Town Grand Traverse Pie, Okemos Grand Traverse Pie, Downtown
Mindful Movement Physical Therapy

We anticipate other businesses and organizations will be added to the list.  If you are shopping at a merchant who is participating in our campaign, please buy a heart to support the homeless, and thank the merchant for participating and helping to inform the community of the important role they can play in helping the homeless.

MSU Business School Student Support

Helping the Homeless. The undergraduate Student Senate of the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University reached out to homeless families in the Lansing area. In November and December, the students set up a “mitten tree” outside a lecture hall on the first floor of the North Business Complex to collect mittens, scarves, and hats collected from students, faculty, and staff for Haven House of East Lansing. The Broad Student Senate Board presented the warm clothing to Angela Mayeaux, Director of Haven House in early December. Thank you, students for your care and involvement in the Lansing community!

  • Greater Lansing Food Bank has awarded Haven House $10,000.  This grant allows us to purchase food for the shelter
  • City of East Lansing has awarded Haven House a grant of $29,623.  The funds will support staffing and allow us to purchase two new appliances for the shelter.
  • Capital Region Community Foundation has awarded $17,464 to Haven House to support staffing, a cash match requirement for a HUD grant, and two new fire doors.
  • Anonymous Foundation Grant  A $10,000 grant was received from an anonymous funder to support our Partners in Progress program.  These funds will support the case manager and non-food stamp items given to the families.
